GO GREEN WITH SHOWA® GLOVES & EARN LEED® CREDITS

Boost Your Facility's LEED® Score with SHOWA® Sustainable Nitrile Hand Protection

Established by the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) in 1998, the LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) rating system is a premier benchmark for sustainable building design.

United States Green Building Council LEED Levels

Buildings consume energy and resources at an alarming rate and account for almost 40% of global energy-related CO2 and are critical in tackling climate change. With a deep desire to transform the building market while making the planet more sustainable, the folks at USGBC (U.S. Green Building Council) created a green building rating system referred to as LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design). It is the preeminent program for the design, construction, maintenance and operations of high-performance green buildings.

LEED®  is the world's most widely used and most recognized green building rating system and currently boasts more than 120,000 participating structures. It is a globally recognized symbol of sustainability achievement and leadership and it’s backed by an entire industry of committed organizations and experts that share a common mission to transform how buildings, communities and neighborhoods are designed, built and operated, enabling an environmentally and socially responsible, healthy, and prosperous environment.

LEED®-CREDITS

To achieve LEED® certification, a project earns points by adhering to prerequisites and credits that address carbon, energy, water, waste, transportation, materials, health and indoor environmental quality. Projects go through a verification and review process by GBCI and are awarded points that correspond to a level of LEED® certification:

  • Certified (40-49 points)
  • Silver (50-59 points)
  • Gold (60-79 points)
  • Platinum (80+ points)

While the LEED® rating (scored out of 110 points) is made up of credits from all aspects of construction, additional points can be earned by purchasing and tracking consumable products that reduce environmental harm and human health risks from materials, resources and products purchased, used, installed and disposed of during the operations and maintenance of existing LEED-certified buildings and projects pursuing recertification. If you are looking to boost your LEED score, Eco-friendly gloves can help you capture additional points.

GO GREEN WITH SHOWA® GLOVE PRODUCTS

Taking the next step in sustainability, SHOWA® has expanded its biodegradable product range of hand protection products featuring Eco Best Technology® (EBT). Gloves with EBT accelerate the biodegradation of nitrile in biologically active landfill without altering the performance, protective nature or the shelf life of the glove.

SHOWA® EBT gloves meet all the necessary qualifications to be certified for biodegradable claims.  The ASTM D5511 test standard demonstrated that SHOWA® EBT gloves achieved 82% biodegradation in only 386 days, while gloves without EBT achieved only 1.9% biodegradation over the same period of time.

When disposed in landfill, an EBT organic additive is designed to make the glove attractive to microbial activity in a landfill. Upon consumption of the EBT formulation, micro-organisms excrete enzymes that breaks down the nitrile into healthy soil leaving zero waste behind.

SHOWA® now offers the most extensive selection of biodegradable hand protection on the market. The following EBT gloves cover a wide range of applications, including food contact, and providing a more sustainable alternative for users.
