Overview
Metal fabrication and assembly work exposes hands to sharp edges, impacts and oily surfaces. This application study shows how a plant can standardize its hand protection on ANSI cut-rated, carbon neutral gloves from ECO MDS, improving protection and supporting supply-chain emissions goals.
The Challenge
Hand injuries are among the most common workplace injuries in manufacturing. Many plants use a mix of gloves that aren't matched to the hazard. Leadership has also set sustainability targets that include Scope 3 emissions from purchased goods such as PPE.
- ANSI cut levels matched to each task, from fine assembly to sheet metal
- Impact protection for heavy handling
- Grip in wet, dry and oily conditions
- PPE that supports carbon reduction and Scope 3 reporting
The goal: match every task with the right cut level while moving to carbon neutral hand protection.
Implementation Highlights
- Hazard review by department and task
- ANSI cut levels assigned from A1 to A6
- Carbon neutral Traffi® LXT® gloves standardized plant-wide
- Impact gloves added for heavy handling areas
- Recycled-content gloves for light assembly and packing
The Solution
-
Assess hazards by task
ECO MDS helps review each department and assign an ANSI/ISEA cut level, from general handling to sharp sheet metal.
-
Standardize on carbon neutral
Most tasks move to Traffi® TG6240 A5 gloves, certified carbon neutral from raw materials to delivery. Heavy handling uses TG5545 impact gloves, and fine assembly uses TG7360 A6 ultrafine gloves.
-
Cover light-duty work
Packing and light assembly use SHOWA® GP264E, with 80% recycled material in the liner, and Portwest® Planet AP18 made from recycled PET.
The Impact
Every task now has a glove matched to its hazard, with grip that works on oily parts and touchscreen compatibility so workers keep gloves on. Because the core range is certified carbon neutral, the plant can show a measurable step toward its Scope 3 goals in a category it buys every week.
Specifications as listed on each ECO MDS product page.
Frequently Asked Questions
What do ANSI cut levels mean?
ANSI/ISEA 105 rates cut resistance from A1 (lowest) to A9 (highest). Match the level to the hazard: A2–A3 for light handling, A4–A6 for sheet metal and sharp parts.
How do carbon neutral gloves help Scope 3 goals?
Scope 3 covers emissions from purchased goods. Gloves certified carbon neutral, like the Traffi® LXT® range, have their emissions measured and offset, reducing the footprint of a frequently purchased item.
