Your hands are your important tools. They lift, grip, cut, mix, assemble, clean, and inspect. In almost every job, they are the first part of the body to meet a hazard.
Still, hand protection is often treated as an afterthought. One box of gloves for every task, every worker, every shift. That’s not enough.
The right glove matters. The right glove makes a difference. It protects what matters most.
That’s why we trust SHOWA®. Because SHOWA® gloves are built to last. Built to fit. Built to protect the people who keep businesses running.
Now we have exciting news. We have just launched an expanded range of SHOWA®
gloves at ECO MDS Associates.
More options. Better protection. Same commitment to safety.
Your hands deserve the best. That’s why we choose SHOWA®.
WHY ARE GLOVES NECESSARY?
Hand injuries happen a lot in the workplace. They don’t have to. A good pair of gloves acts like a shield between workers and the dangers they face every day.
- Cuts and punctures come from things like sheet metal, glass, blades, wire, and parts with jagged edges.
- Chemicals such as solvents, acids, caustics, oils, and cleaning agents can burn skin. Get into the body through the skin.
- Extreme temperatures. Freezing items, outdoor work, hot surfaces, or molds. Can damage hands quickly.
- Impact and crushing injuries happen when hands are near tools, materials, or pinch points.
- Abrasion and friction wear down skin over hours of work.
- Contamination is a concern in food processing, electronics, and clean rooms. Gloves keep the product safe, not just the person.
Skipping hand protection costs more than you think.
- Lost workdays, bills, workers’ compensation claims, production delays.
- And worst of all, people getting hurt.
OSHA’s hand protection standard (29 CFR 1910.138) says employers must choose and provide the gloves when workers’ hands are exposed to hazards.
THE RIGHT GLOVE FOR THE RIGHT JOB
Wearing a glove is not the same as being protected. A glove that doesn’t fit the job can be as dangerous as wearing nothing at all.
A general-purpose glove won’t stop a chemical. A coated knit glove might feel tough. Solvents can go right through the inside. For work, you need a glove made of the right material. Nitrile, neoprene, PVC, butyl, or Viton®. Matched to the specific chemical.
A glove for chemicals won’t stop a knife. Rubber and nitrile resist liquids, not edges. For cut hazards, use gloves made with engineered fibers rated on the ANSI/ISEA cut scale (A1 to A9).
Many gloves can be a hazard too. A bulky glove on an assembly line makes it hard to work. It slows people down. Makes them want to take it off. Fatigue and discomfort are the reasons workers stop wearing personal protective equipment.
The environment matters. Oily parts need gloves that grip when wet. Cold work and freezers need insulation that still allows fingers to move. Electronics need gloves that control static. Food work needs gloves made from food-safe materials.
The best glove is the one that protects against the hazard, fits right, and is comfortable enough to stay on all shift long.
