Man Carrying Duro brand paper bags

Americans consume hundreds of billions of plastic bags each year prompting cities across the country to ban or tax plastic bags. They're lightweight, handy and too easily discarded. Used once and then disposed, the adverse impacts of plastic bags on our environment are undeniable and it has clearly become a global crisis.

ENVIROMENTAL IMPACT

While plastic bags were rarely found during the 60s and 70s, their usage has increased at an alarming rate since becoming popular during the 80s. Just look around you. When they’re not piling up in landfills, they’re blocking storm drains, littering streets, clinging to treetops and contaminating our lakes, rivers and oceans where seabirds, turtles and other marine animals mistakenly ingest them as food or get tangled up in them. It is estimated that 1000,000 marine animals die each year of plastic pollution.

Plastic bags are rarely recycled and most end up on landfill sites where they take centuries to photo-degrade. They eventually break down into smaller and smaller fragments referred to as micro-plastic. These microscopic particles contaminate the soil, waterways and inadvertently enter the food chain when animals accidentally ingest them.

The manufacturing, use and disposal of plastic is bad for the environment and for human health. Cancerous toxins released during manufacturing and by waste incinerators make plastic the wrong option. It pollutes the air and waterways and is toxic throughout its production and use. What’s more, it poses a deadly threat to marine and land-based life and plastic must always be burned or buried, even after being recycled a few times.

Duro Bag® Kraft 57# 80076 Paper Sack

Plastic bag bans alone won’t solve the plastic crisis, but they do help to change plastic consumption habits and cause consumers and retailers to be more open to Earth-friendly or greener alternatives such as paper type grocery bags.

Paper shopping bags are an effective and sustainable form of packaging for businesses that are looking to reduce their environmental impact. Available in various sizes, styles, weights, paper bags are cost-effective and offer many benefits that can help businesses increase their efficiency and profitability while protecting the environment.
